Have fun. Learn wrestling. Build confidence!

Mat Warriors is an active, high-energy wrestling camp designed for grassroots to novice-level athletes - whether you’ve never stepped on a mat or already have some experience. This program focuses on developing skills, confidence, and a love for the sport in a safe, supportive environment. Depending on athlete experience, coaches can also adapt sessions to suit wrestlers skill levels (both coaches competed for SFU and internationally, and have coached athletes of various skill and experience levels).

Campers will take part in wrestling-based warm-ups, technique drills rooted in wrestling, martial arts, and self-defence, plus engaging wrestling games. Athletes will also be introduced to controlled live scenarios, learning how to apply skills in guided, safe situations with hands-on coaching every step of the way.

Beyond the mat, participants will explore refereeing and coaching fundamentals - building leadership, awareness, and sportsmanship.

Led by Payten Smith (SFU Alumni and former Team Canada athlete) and Cruz Velasquez (SFU alumnus, 2028 Olympic pathway athlete), this camp is powered by experienced coaches who are passionate about helping athletes grow, learn, and have fun.
