BCWA Insurance
BC Wrestling Association (BCWA) provides insurance coverage to protect our athletes, coaches, officials, volunteers, and clubs during sanctioned wrestling activities.
This guide explains what is covered, what is not covered, and what members need to know before participating in events in BC, across Canada, or internationally.

What is Covered Under a BCWA Membership
What’s Covered Under a BCWA Membership

As a BCWA member, you receive:
✔ Commercial General Liability (CGL)
Protects you and your club if you are sued for bodily injury or property damage during BCWA-sanctioned wrestling activities.
✔ Participant Accident (PA) Insurance
Provides limited financial support for certain injuries.
Note: This is not travel medical insurance.
✔ Abuse Coverage
Covers compensatory damages relating to defined abuse incidents.

For a full list of what is covered under BCWA insurance, please refer to: BCWA Insurance Coverage FAQ

Who Is Covered?
Coverage applies only to:
-
Current BCWA members, or
-
Approved Limited Activity / DOE participants (max 3 days)
-
Participants from other PSOs, if:
-
Their PSO sanctions their participation, and
-
They provide a Certificate of Insurance (COI) naming BC Wrestling Association as Additional Insured.
-

Non-Members
Non-members are not covered by BCWA’s insurance.
However:
Non-members do NOT void your club’s insurance.
They are simply personally liable if they are injured or sued.
For safety:
Clubs should require non-members to purchase a BCWA membership or Limited Activity membership.
OR require a COI proving their own insurance coverage.
Out-of-Province Events
(Within Canada)
BCWA athletes traveling to another province:
-
Covered by CGL and PA if BCWA sanctions their participation.
Must purchase their own Emergency Travel Medical.
Athletes from other provinces coming to BC:
-
Must have their PSO sanction their participation.
-
Must provide a COI naming BCWA as Additional Insured.
Out-of-Country Events (USA or International)
BCWA coverage does not automatically extend outside Canada/USA.
To compete internationally:
-
Club or BCWA submits a CGL Extension Form to SBC Insurance.
-
Underwriter reviews the request.
-
Cost typically $300–$800 per trip.
