BC to Host 2023 U17/U19 Canadian Wrestling Championships

BC Wrestling is very excited to announce that we have won the bid to host the 2023 U17/U19 Canadian Wrestling Championships. It has been a number of years since BC has hosted and our goal is to put on an incredible event that brings us back into the regular rotation. The event will be hosted downtown in the iconic sails of the Vancouver Convention Centre. Athletes, Coaches and Officials from all across Canada will come together in one of the most scenic venues that helped put Vancouver on the map at Expo '86. Steps away from the venue is our Host Hotel, the Pinnacle Hotel Harbourfront. With the hotel and venue beside each other and with the city's intermodal transportation, we expect that nobody who flies into YVR will need to have a car.

A big thank you to the Hosting Committee which consisted of Justin Abdou, Raj Virdi, Miguel De Sousa, Samantha Fan, Non Ha and Chris Thom. We also want to thank Sport Hosting Vancouver and Michelle Collens who made the whole bid possible.

We are just less than two years away from the tournament, but we are already starting to plan so we can ensure success. There is no way that we will be able to succeed without the help of our wrestling community. So, if you want to help, please reach out to Raj Virdi at rajvirdi01@gmail.com and let him know how. We are going to need an army of volunteers so don't be shy. Whether it is volunteering at the event, helping with setup, procurement, transporting mats or anything else let Raj know.

In addition to volunteers, an event of this magnitude will require financial support. Before we start actively approaching sponsors, we want to extend the opportunity to our membership who may want to contribute to the success of the event. Whether it is financial support or in-kind donations, we want to hear from you! Please reach out to Chris Thom at chris@bcwrestling.com if you are interested.

There will be many challenges for our sport to overcome between now and March 2023, but we are excited to take those on and then deliver the best National Championships that Canada has ever seen.
