BC Wrestling would like to give huge congratulations to our Team Canada who recently attended the 2022 Pan American Championships from May 05 - 08 in Mexico, Acapulco. Within the team, nine representatives stemmed from British Columbia - resulting with five individuals taking a place on the podium.
From the men's division, Amar Dhesi dominated the mat leading his way to a gold medal in the 125kg category. A nail biting match, Dhesi secured the win with only seconds to go defeating world medalist Nick Gwiazdowski. In the women's division, sisters Karla (55kg) and Ana Godinez (62kg) secured gold with incredible performances. Labelled as the upset of the tournament, Karla defeated not one but two world champions. Adding to the excitement, Justina Di Stasio (76kg) joined her teammates fighting back from a challenging match to dominate in the repechage earning bronze! Lastly, representing Alberta but stemming from BC, Maple Ridge's Miki Rowbottom (65kg) wrestled her way to a silver medal.
Overall, Canada claimed 11 medals, including 5 golds at the championships - leading to Canada finishing second overall in the team standings. All athletes gave amazing performances - bringing BC and Canada great pride!
