Recap of 2019 Canadian Wrestling Trials


A group of BC Wrestlers headed to Niagra Falls, Ontario this past weekend to compete at the 2019 Canadian Wrestling Trials! Starting off the action packed weekend, Brad Hildenbrandt won by fall in the the Greco-Roman heavyweight finals, overall placing first and setting him on the road to  qualifying for the 2020 Olympics! Following the next day, Jasmit Phulka and Amarveer Dhesi followed suit by winning the Freestyle wrestling trials. Jasmit competing at  the mens freestlye 74 kg divison, and Amarveer at the mens 125 kg division. All three wrestlers have taken the first steps in qualifying for the 2020 Olympics! The next steps in qualification will take place at the Pan-Am Olympic Qualification tournament in March held in Ottawa. 

Coming in close, Aso Palani, Nishan Randhawa, and Justina Di Stasio placed second with back and forth finals matches. Overall, it was a true battle of the best in the country!

Putting up some fantastic performances,  Ana Godinez  and Darthe Capellan took home the bronze, along with a 5th place finish by Jacob Torres, and 8th place finishes by Amber Wiebe and Karla Godinez. As a team, Burnaby Mountain Wrestling Club placed 5th overall at the tournament.
