BCWA has partnered with the BC Amateur Sport Fund (BCASF) to raise funds to benefit our grassroots development programs. Our participation program gives children aged 6-12 a safe, fun environment to develop skills and confidence. We want to remove financial barriers so that Indigenous children, new Canadian children, and low-income children can participate in these programs.
We’re raising funds to cover the costs for participants and to support a dedicated coach/administrator whose sole purpose is supporting these programs and the growth of wrestling. Can you make a donation to our project to help make our sport accessible to all? Donations of $20 or more made to BCASF to benefit our programs can receive a tax receipt.
ONNI Group has pledged to match all donations made in the next month up to $10,000! We would love to make the most of their generous offer and reach our goal of raising $20,000 to support grassroots development.

In just nine days, Amar Dhesi will take his first steps on the mat at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics! Out of Surrey British Columbia, Amar will compete in the 125kg men's freestyle weightclass beginning August 5th.
“Amar Dhesi earned his way to Tokyo 2020 by first winning the 125kg weight class at the national trials in December 2019 and then reaching the final at the Pan American Olympic Qualifier in March 2020. Just ahead of the Olympic qualifier, Dhesi also won 125kg silver at the Pan American Championships. As part of his preparations for the postponed Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, Dhesi won gold at the Matteo Pellicone Tournament in March 2021.” (Team Canada, 2021).
Alongside Amar, three other wrestlers including SFU alumni (and honorary BC-ite) Danielle Lappage, Jordan Steen, and reigning Olympic champ Erica Wiebe will also be lacing up their boots to represent Canada. It was brought up at the AGM that we need to have more of a focus on Social Media - and we agree! The first part of this is the launch of a new Instagram Page (www.instagram.com/b.c.wrestling) at @b.c.wrestling and a new Facebook Page
(BC Wrestling Association). The old page you may be familiar with is still in existence, but is no longer affiliated with the BC Wrestling Association.
Wrestling should be coming back very soon and we want to share as many photos as we can. Please send us your photos and tag b.c.wrestling so we can share it on our page.
