BC Wrestling Mourns the Passing of Larry Kliparchuk’s Beloved Wife Sally

 

Sally Jennifer Rosamond Kliparchuk (Smith) (1950-2013) slipped peacefully away on April 5th losing her battle with cancer. She is survived by Larry, her best friend and husband of 43 years, mother Margaret Smith, sisters Liz Cook and Pip Smith, her loving nieces, nephews, sisters & brother in-law and her faithful dog Sampson. Sally was predeceased by her father Tom and in-laws Micky and Nellie Kliparchuk. A long time elementary school teacher in SD43 (Sally retired in 2005). She and Larry enjoyed travelling, reading, their many friends and lounging by their pool in the summer. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Canadian Cancer Society. Celebration of life will be held at the Maple Ridge Funeral Chapel, 11969-216th Street, Maple Ridge, on Sunday April 14th, 2013 at 1:00 pm with reception to follow.

  FREDERICTON SET TO HOST 2013 ASICS CANADIAN WRESTLING CHAMPIONSHIPS

Canada’s top wrestlers converge to the University of New Brunswick to battle for Canadian Championships honours

(Ottawa, ON – March 19, 2013) The 2013 ASICS Senior and Junior Canadian Wrestling Championships will be held in Fredericton, New Brunswick, this upcoming weekend, and present a chance for all Canadian wrestlers to battle for the top Canadian honours. More>>

 

 Douglas College Wrestlers end th 2012-13 season with National Championship Wins

 Jasmit Phulka and Parm Dhesi competed in 2 National Championships on consecutive weekends.  The Douglas College wrestlers competed in the NCWA Nationals in Dallas Texas March 13-16, where they both achieved All-American status.  Phulka placed 8th and Dhesi placed 7th.  For full NCWA championship recap, videos and results click here>>> 

On March 23rd, the wrestellers competed at the Canadian Junior Championships where they both won National titles.  Phulka and Dhesi will now represent Canada at the 2013 World Junior Championships to be held in Sophia Bularia August 13 - 18.  Full release>>>  Congratulations National Champions - Jasmit Phulka and Parm Dhesi!

 

  Douglas College Wrestlers Set to Compete at the 2013 NCWA Nationals

Jasmit Phulka 184 lbs and Parm Dhesi 235 lbs compete this weekend in Dallas at the NCWA Nationals from March 14th - 17th. Phulka is a Junior National Champion and Dhesi represented Canada at the Youth Olympics and was recently a High School Athlete finalist in the 47th BC Athlete of the Year Awards.

The goals of the Canada Games Men's Team is not only to win but to enhance participation of numerous athletes throughout the province allowing opportunity to make the provincial team. The goals include reaching the podium individually as well as in the team competition.  From a technical sense, the activities in preparation include numerous high level training camps and competitions.

 2013 Canada Summer Games - Team BC Women's Plan

The Team BC Women's plan is about assembling the best team of athletes to represent British Columbia at the 2013 Canada Summer Games in Sherbrook, QC.  It is about setting performance goals that allow BC Wrestling to gauge how our female provincial level athletes are progressing along the high-perforamnce pathway and how our IPS (integrated performance system) is supporting development and enabling athletes to reach their goals.

Through a plan of:

  1. Talent Identification Activities
  2. Specific Training Opportunities
  3. Development Camps
  4. Targetted Competitions, and
  5. Selection Criteria and Process

The outcome is to send the best prepared women's team capable of:

  • competing to the best of their ability
  • achieving personal bests and podium performances
  • helping Team BC achieve its flag point and medal targets, are achievable.
