Safety must be of primary importance in any sport activity, and the coach has the ability to control the learning environment to minimize the potential for any injury.

Coaching Standards for BC Coaches
Seasonal planning involves making up a flexible master plan. The following list a few basic guidelines.

External Sport Credits for student coaches
The Sport Secretariat, in partnership with the Coaches Association of BC (CABC) and BC Wrestling, offers the National Coaching Certification Program (NCCP) on a province-wide basis. This is a national program for coach education. Certificates indicating “trained” or “certified” status are provided upon successful completion of multi-sport generic or sport specific modules, or when requirements of “certification” have been met.
Coach 11 - 4 credits - Student athletes must complete the NCCP Introduction to Competition - Part A modules, CPR “C”, SportMedBC SportsAid, plus 70 hours of coaching experience.
Coach 12 - 4 credits - Student athletes must complete the NCCP Community Sport, NCCP Introduction to Competition - Part A modules, evaluated in NCCP multi-sport modules, CPR “C”, SportMedBC SportsAid and Athletic Taping, plus 80 hours of coaching experience.
Keeping kids physically active and helping them to build confidence and self esteem. Youth wrestling is about FUN! Wrestling is introduced to elementary school age kids for fun and participation. Many competitions in the province include a kids wrestling division, as well as a number of independent kids wrestling tournaments and clinics.
High School Wrestling
Participation in the zone qualifiers and the high school championships is regulated through the high school wrestling commission that is associated with BC School Sports. For futher information on competitive rules & regulations for participation, please refer to BC SCHOOL SPORTS website.

BC Wrestling provides training opportunities for provincial coaches through participation in camps, clinic and national/international competitions.
Annual coaching clinics kick off the wrestling season in early November. (see events for details)
Zone coordinates can request coaching clinics in their region, if participation numbers permit.
Coaches are encouraged to participate in provincial camps (spring, summer & christmas), to work with elite coaches to obtain hands on experience in training athletes.
Coaches are encouraged to apply for coaching positions to coach Team BC athletes to national competitions.
